Welcome to Slice of Pi: Why do we Homeschool?

We are a family of 6! We do the k12 curriculum through our State Online Academy. It is a public charter school (which means we are accountable for attendance and state testing) but we get to do it at home online at our own pace so we feel we have the best of both worlds!
k12 is such a great curriculum I love the fact that kids are learning art, history, music, science, and even foreign language in addition to reading and math! Boxes of books, paints, science experiments, CD's, etc., come in the mail--ALL FOR FREE (and we return it back at the end of the year)
We can skip ahead in reading or stay behind in math. We can go to Disneyland in February. We can take off the whole month of December if we want. The whole family is involved: Dad will be teaching math this year, "wizard numbers," he calls it.
With one-on-one teaching we finish school in about 3 hrs. leaving plenty of time for piano practicing, dance, friends, and best of all: NO HOMEWORK!
The State Online Academies provide us with a teacher who checks in by email once/month and gives any support we ask for. We also get to go on fieldtrips with other k12 families throughout the state:
We will take it year by year and kid by kid see how it goes but, so far we feel like we are getting the the best of both worlds.
